A few years ago, selling on Amazon from Pakistan was something most business owners in Islamabad only heard about. Then Amazon added Pakistan to its list of seller registration countries, and things changed quickly. Today you will find private label brands run from offices in I-8, product sourcing teams working with manufacturers in Sialkot and Lahore, and a whole community of Amazon virtual assistants trained in the twin cities.
Getting a product live on Amazon is the easy part. Getting it to sell profitably, in a marketplace full of established competitors, is much harder. Advertising is usually what decides whether a new listing takes off or sinks.
I am Syed Mudassir Shah. I have been running paid advertising for more than 15 years, including Amazon PPC for sellers in Pakistan and abroad. This guide explains how an Amazon Ads expert in Islamabad should approach your account, from launch to steady growth.
The journey from Islamabad to the Amazon shelf
Every seller's journey is different, but most follow the same broad path. Advertising fits at a specific point, and it works best when the steps before it are done well.
From Pakistan to the marketplace
Animated plane on a dashed route above five steps: source in Sialkot, Lahore or Islamabad, ship to the Amazon warehouse, list with Brand Registry, launch Sponsored Products, then grow reviews and organic rank.
- Source the product, often from manufacturers in Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad or Karachi, or import from abroad.
- Ship to the marketplace, usually into Amazon's fulfilment network or a third party warehouse.
- Create a strong listing, with keyword rich titles, clear images and, ideally, Brand Registry.
- Launch advertising to get the first sales and reviews.
- Grow as reviews and sales history lift organic rank.
Ads cannot rescue a weak product or a poor listing. Before I spend a single dollar on PPC, I review the listing, the price and the competition, and I tell clients honestly if something needs fixing first.
Why you need someone who understands the target market
One of the biggest mistakes Pakistan based sellers make is researching keywords the way they would search themselves. A shopper in Texas or Manchester uses different words, spellings and phrases. "Shalwar" means nothing to most American shoppers. "Sports bra" and "workout top" are not the same search in the US.
A good Amazon Ads expert researches keywords from the shopper's point of view in the target marketplace. That means using Amazon's own search suggestions, search term reports, competitor listings and third party research tools, then grouping keywords by intent and relevance before building campaigns.
A phased launch plan
Launching a new product on Amazon is not a single event. I plan it in phases, with different goals for each.
| Phase | Typical timing | Main goal | Campaigns I usually run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch | First 2 to 4 weeks | First sales, data and reviews | Auto campaign, a few exact match core keywords, product targeting on close competitors |
| Learn | Weeks 4 to 8 | Find converting search terms | Broad and phrase research campaigns, search term harvesting into exact match |
| Grow | Months 2 to 4 | Scale winners and improve rank | Exact match performance campaigns, Sponsored Brands if brand registered |
| Profit | After month 4 | Bring ACoS down and protect margin | Bid trimming, brand defence, Sponsored Display retargeting |
During launch, a higher advertising cost of sale is normal and expected. The product has no reviews or sales history yet. The important thing is to plan for it, set a time limit and move steadily toward profit. I explain the numbers behind this in detail in my Amazon PPC guide for Pakistani sellers.
Sponsored ad types and when to use them
Sponsored Products appear in search results and on product pages. They are the foundation of nearly every account and usually take most of the budget.
Sponsored Brands show your logo, a custom headline and several products, or a video, at the top of search results. They need Brand Registry and are excellent for brand searches and category keywords.
Sponsored Display reaches shoppers on product pages and, in some cases, beyond Amazon. I mainly use it to retarget people who viewed your products and to defend your own listings from competitors.
Sponsored today, organic tomorrow
Amazon style search results for wireless earbuds with sponsored tiles and an organic rank counter climbing from 24 to 6.
Brand Registry and why it matters
Brand Registry unlocks Sponsored Brands, most Sponsored Display options, A+ Content and better brand protection. To enrol, you need a registered or pending trademark from an office Amazon accepts. Many Pakistan based sellers file a trademark in the target marketplace, such as the US or UK, for this reason.
It takes time and some cost, but for any serious private label seller, I recommend it. Without it, you are competing with one hand tied behind your back.
Working across time zones from Islamabad
Pakistan Standard Time is several hours ahead of the US and a few hours ahead of the UK. That affects how campaigns are managed.
Shoppers in the US are most active during their daytime, which is evening and night in Islamabad. Budget caps that run out in the US morning mean your ads disappear when shoppers are most active. I set budgets and any bid scheduling around the marketplace's local time, not ours.
Communication with your team, suppliers and Amazon support also needs planning. I keep clients updated with weekly written reports, so nothing depends on being awake at the same time.
Getting paid and keeping records
Amazon pays out to supported bank accounts or payment services in your seller profile. Many Pakistan based sellers use services such as Payoneer to receive funds. Keep clear records of advertising costs and sales by product, because these numbers decide which products deserve more ad budget. Ask your accountant about tax treatment, as rules can change.
Mistakes I see from new sellers in Islamabad
- Launching ads before the listing is ready, with weak images, thin bullet points or no reviews.
- Using Urdu or local phrasing in keyword research for an American or British audience.
- Leaving auto campaigns running for months with no negative keywords.
- Setting budgets in PKR thinking rather than the marketplace currency, and running out early in the day.
- Ignoring stock levels. Running out of stock during a launch can undo weeks of ranking progress.
- Judging success by ad sales alone, without checking total sales and profit.
Which products suit Amazon advertising
Not every product is a good candidate for paid ads on Amazon. Before launching, I look at a few questions with every seller.
Is there enough margin? After the selling price, Amazon fees, product cost and shipping, there must be room left for advertising. Products with very thin margins struggle to ever become profitable with ads.
Is there real search demand? If shoppers are not searching for the product, Sponsored Products have little to work with. Amazon's own search bar suggestions and search term data are a good first check.
Can you compete on the first page? Look at the listings you would appear next to. If every competitor has thousands of reviews and a lower price, you need a clear reason to be chosen, such as better quality, a unique feature or a stronger brand story.
Is the product easy to ship and stock? Heavy, fragile or seasonal products add risk. Long shipping times from Pakistan make stock planning especially important.
Products that pass these checks give advertising a real chance. Products that fail them usually need changes before ads can help.
Building your Amazon team in Islamabad
Many sellers in the twin cities build small teams to run their Amazon business. Typical roles include product research, sourcing, listing creation, customer service, inventory planning and advertising.
Advertising sits across all of them. A PPC manager needs to know when new stock is arriving, when a listing has changed, when reviews are dropping and when a promotion is planned. When I work with seller teams, I set up a simple weekly check in so these updates reach the advertising side quickly. It sounds basic, but missed communication causes a lot of wasted spend, such as ads pushing a product that went out of stock yesterday.
Coupons, deals and ads working together
Advertising rarely works alone on Amazon. Coupons, Lightning Deals, Prime exclusive discounts and seasonal events all change how shoppers respond to your ads.
A coupon badge on a sponsored listing can lift click rate noticeably, because the discount is visible right in the search results. During a launch, a modest coupon combined with Sponsored Products often helps a new product win its first sales faster than ads alone.
Big events such as Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday need special planning. Competition and costs per click rise sharply, so I raise budgets ahead of time for products with deals running and lower bids on products without them. Afterwards, budgets come back down so the account does not keep paying event prices on normal days.
The key is coordination. Your promotions calendar and your advertising plan should be the same document, not two separate ideas.
What a good monthly Amazon PPC report shows
A useful report answers business questions, not just advertising ones. I include:
- Ad spend, ad sales and ACoS by product, compared with the break even point.
- Total sales and TACoS, showing whether ads are growing the whole business.
- Top converting search terms and new keywords moved into exact match.
- Wasted search terms that were added as negatives.
- Organic rank movement for key keywords.
- Stock warnings and planned changes for next month.
If your current reports only show clicks and impressions, ask for more. You cannot manage what you cannot see.
